Black cover over Alnico 3
Fits in a Jazzmaster, sounds like a p90
Vintage short pole length for that vintage tone
Black cover over Alnico 3
Short little Alnico poles and a wide flat coil of wire gives this unique design its unique Tone. With a bright, snappy single-coil voice, the wide coil senses more of the string, for a complex voice.
My Jazzmaster pickups are scatter-wound onto hand finished Alnico magnets, and mounted on laser cut fiberboard flatwork before being potted in wax.
I use period correct cloth covered wire.
Available with Black, White, Ivory or Parchment Cover.

Standard Models
JM V
Vintage Alnico V
Alnico 5 gives the brightest, most punchy voice. The typical surfy jangle.
This proper vintage spec JM is often criticised for being too bright & piercing - and it really does wake you up!
Great choice for thick flat-wound strings as Leo intended, or dark sounding guitar - or if you just want to sound like a proper JM!

JM III
Vintage Alnico III
In my humble opinion the weakest magnets do something special in a JM.
Great articulation and that JM clarity you would expect, these have a smoothed out voice, with a tempered top end, which have a smooth buttery voice. The best way to make a JM more Jazz. These are my favorite JM pickups by far, even with thick flat-wounds!

JM IV
Vintage Alnico IV
Most of the Jangle, with a subtle trim off the top.
This uses Alnico IV pole pieces, uncommon in these pickups, which gives a similar response to Alnico V, but with a pleasant slight trimming off the top end. Still with nicely controlled bass and enough power to tickle your tubes, these offer proper JM jangle, but with a little less JM.

Bridge 8.0k 4.3H

JM II
Vintage Alnico II
Alnico 2 poles reduce some of attack and pushes in a bit more body to the mids an lower ends.
A popular choice for a JM strung with thinner/normal string gauges or just to squeeze a bit more body to your tone.
Still plenty of JM jangle, just a bit more friendly to a modern setup.
Neck 7.5k 4.0H
Bridge 8.0k 4.3H
£70 each £130 set
JM Plus
Modern Alnico V (or II, III, IV)
Wound slightly hotter than vintage, these simply pump a bit more push to your amp and add a bit more girth in the mids.
Still a proper JM voice, but slightly more modern feel.
Great if you find your JM tone just lacking a bit of Oomph!
Neck 7.9k 4.1H
Bridge 8.4k 4.6H
£70 each £130 set
JM Fire
Modern Alnico V
Wound significantly hotter, but still with thin wide coils for that iconic tone, these add more power and mid response for a much more modern feel.
Still a JM but if you like to push your amp into saturation, then these are awesome at cutting through the mix. It's not very subtle, it's definitely not Jazz, but its fun!

Bridge 8.6k 4.8H

Formvar Jazz
Used in the original pickups, Formvar is the type of coating on the insulated coil wire and is thicker than normal Poly insulated coil wire. This results in a fatter coil with more space between the wires in the coil. Resulting in a more open, airy 'vintage' sound.
Only available for Vintage Spec pickups.

Overwound Underwound
Most Vintage wound Pickups can be Overwound to Vintage-Hot wind for more presence and for brighter guitars or just for a bit more grunt and a more modern sound. All Pickups can be Underwound up to 10% for more clarity or for dark or hollow guitars. Contact me directly to discuss this option.

Blended
If you find your unwound strings on the shrill side and pulling the strings, consider using a blend of magnets in the bridge pickup. With an Alnico 5 bridge pickups, using Alnico 2 or 3 in the GBE string position will smooth out the tones and add a little more warmth in your solosContact me directly to discuss this option.
