Like a mini humbucker you get two thin narrow bobbins, packed with hand-wound wire coils of thin wire.

One with a mini bar magnet, the other with yet another bar magnet!

Firebirds are not designed like a mini or regular humbucker and sound like neither. The Alnico bars/poles give a voice much more akin to a single coil, with bright snappy tones & relatively low output.

I use slightly mismatched coils produce a rich musicality and depth to this bright, distinctive voice.

Shielded two wire output as standard. See below for Options.

Fletcher-Birds have short legs and should fit well within vintage guitars:

Standard Models

Light Wood Panel

Bright Bird

Vintage Alnico V

Using two bright and powerful Alnico 5 magnets for a sharp response and wound with thicker AWG42 coil wire to vintage output for an open crisp voice.
These have a snappy bright voice with dominant top end and quick string response. Not as powerful as a mini humbucker, these are best at home in dark sounding or hollow guitars.

Skinny Warm Bird

Vintage Alnico II

Combining the thickness of Alnico 2 to the tone, with the slight mid push of the thinner coil wire, results in my warmest FB. The vintage spec output still retains the clarity of voice and expressive touch dynamics, but with a pleasant tempering of the top ends can can be brittle in a FB pickup.
I always end up going back to this model.

These can be overwound slightly if required.

Skinny Bright Bird

Vintage Alnico V

Wound with thinner AWG43 coil wire to vintage output, these introduce a touch more compression and presence in the mids for a slightly more modern feel, with the brightness of the top end retained by the stronger magnet, the chewiness in the mids is down to the thinner coil wire.
These can be overwound slightly if required.

Loud Bird

Modern Alnico V (Or II, Ceramic)

Sometimes we just need to be Loud!
Using either magnet (or even a ceramic if you wish), but stuffed full of the thinnest coil wire, these aim to push the most out of a FB.
Thick chewy mids - relative to a FB - it has a bright HiDef tone like a Tele Bridge pickup. Great clarity in dirt and happy to push your amp into submission.

I usually prefer a quieter more sophisticated pickup - but sometimes making a Noise makes me smile!

Warm Bird

Vintage Alnico II

The slightly weaker Alnico 2 has an EQ focus pushed down to reveal some thickness in the mids and a more substantial bass. No where near HB territory, and still bright and sharp like a FB should be, just with a touch more warmth. Wound with AWG42 coil wire to vintage output, retains the clarity & dynamics.

Overwound Underwound

All Vintage wind AWG43 pickups can be overwound by 5% to Vintage-Hot for a more edgy, gritty sound. (AWG 42 vintage spec fills the bobbin, so can be wound no more).

All pickups can be underwound by up to 10% for a cleaner, clearer vibe, recommended on semi/hollow bodies or bodies with an overly dark tone.

Overwound recommended for bright bodies, or just more dirt! Contact me directly to discuss this option.
